Physical and Chemical Properties of CF4 Gas

CF4, or Carbon Tetrafluoride, possesses several unique physical and chemical properties that make it suitable for various industrial applications. Being a colorless and odorless gas, it's often unnoticed in the atmosphere. It's non-flammable, and it does not support combustion, making it safe for many industrial applications.

One of the most interesting aspects of CF4 is its stability. It is one of the most inert gases known, meaning it doesn't readily react with other substances. This is due to its tetrahedral structure, where each fluorine atom is symmetrically bonded to the central carbon atom, creating strong and stable covalent bonds.

CF4 has a boiling point of -128.0°C and a melting point of -183.6°C. Being denser than air, it tends to accumulate in low-lying areas. This can create a suffocating environment if it's released in enclosed spaces, as it displaces oxygen.
